A shapeless mass devoid of life
in space hung motionless,
Thick clouds and vapour veiled the sun
and girded thick darkness.
No shaft of light could penetrate or on
this dark world peep.
A troubled sea that heaved and boiled
ran foaming o'er the deep.
Though none were there to witness
to the Lord's own spirit then,
It ne'er the less did brood upon
the waters as a hen.

A token of Great Yahweh's plan
to fill the earth with life
And order out of chaos bring
to end the water's strife.
For He has now revealed to men
the nature of His plan
To fill the earth with glory
through a creature He called man.

All-seeing God did know e'en then
the outcome of His work
And how the first, created, man
this fateful task would shirk.
Yet thought and reason did prevail
all planned with Wisdom's sight
And found expression at the first
in words "Let there be light"

Thus logos at the very first
the mind of God revealed
And with His word, off from the earth
the clouds of gloom were peeled.
Soon foaming waters hasted back
and drying land appeared;
The sun shone out, the earth brought forth
and living things were reared.

Then, with creations crowning act
the hand of God did span
The very dust upon the earth, and
formed it into man.
Behold him at the very first,
created Very Good,
All creatures subject to his will
on land, in air, in flood.
His woman standing at his side,
a part of him no less;
power from God to bring forth
seed which He Himself would bless.
"Go forward Adam twain made one,
keep God at thy right hand.
Obey His word, perform thy deed,
with glory fill the land".

Alas! earth of the earth was he,
his mind was earthy too,
He spurned to act on God's command
and keep His precepts true.
Declared he then and for all time
that sin in man would lie
And none of them was fit for ought
except one day to die.
So from that time did sin prevail and
man was increased too.
God's laws were quickly pushed aside
and hidden from men's view.

Once more thick clouds rolled o'er the
earth which were the clouds of sin;
A veiling of the light of God
made man more dark within.
Not held by any moral law
the sea of nations grew
And all the chaos at the first
did simulate anew.
Then came the time appointed
by the great designing Hand
To unfold greater wisdom yet
And make a righteous stand.

So at this time when man upon
the earth long years had been,
The logos in the flesh appeared
and God in Man was seen.

"Let there be light" and Jesus came
to save this world from sin.
A tempest stilled, a lifted cloud
and shining light within.
Yet some would rather walk in sin
and tossed be by the tide
And when they see the light of God
would much prefer to hide.

But we must see in Christ's great work
creation new begun;
He is the firstborn formed by God;
His only loving Son.
God speaks through him to you and me
and every living soul
And if we hark, then from our minds
shall darkness ever roll.

Thus those who come to him in faith
are shapen from his side;
Bone of his bone, flesh of his flesh,
for ever to abide.
God's purpose never more shall be
left in the hand of man
But now, in Christ shall glory spread
as ever was God's plan.
