Bible Answers - Position While Praying

Question  I was wondering about prayer... usually I try to kneel when I do my morning or evening prayers. It seems to be more respectful to God rather than just lying on my bed. I do sometimes pray just lying on my bed. I want to pray in a manner that honors God and respects who He is, but I am not exactly sure how important kneeling really is. Anyway, I was just wondering if you had some thoughts about how important it is to pray in a certain body position. (I realize sometimes, like while driving, we can't kneel, and yet I know God is faithful in answering those sort of prayers too.) If you can back your thoughts up with some scripture, that would be even better. Thanks.

Answer  Thank you for your question. Please consider the following.

    • Nehemiah stood and prayed in front of King Artaxerxes... Nehemiah 2:1-4
    • Daniel knelt and prayed in his room... Daniel 6:10
    • Abram talked with God while he was flat on his face... Genesis 17:3
    • Paul and the Ephesian believers knelt and prayed... Acts 20:36

It does not matter what body position you are in... It matters what position your mind is in... You should be humble and sincere before God (Ephesians 6:18). Daniel desired to know the interpretation of the 70 week prophecy, and so prayed and fasted until the answer came (Daniel 10:1-3, 12-14). Daniel also prayed concerning the release of his nation from captivity and studied his Bible concerning the prophecies God gave about it (Daniel 9:1-4, 21-23).
