Dreaming Dreams and Seeing Visions

Question

I am a Christian and I am having some very vivid dreams and I was wondering if this would be a fulfillment of Joel 2:28-29?

Answer

The context of Joel tells us that his audience is Jewish (see Joel 2:1, 15, 32; 3:1). This clearly indicates that the recipients of this outpouring of God's spirit were to be the Jews. In Joel 2:18 we find that God will have "pity on his people" and defeat the "northern army" (v. 20 - cp. Ezekiel 38, 39; Zechariah 14:1-3; Daniel 11:40-45) that has invaded His land. We are told that the Jews will "praise the name of the LORD" (v. 26) and that God will be "in the midst of Israel" (v. 27). We are then told that "afterward" God "will pour out his spirit" (v. 28) upon the Jews who are the "all flesh" in this context.

The phrase found in v. 32 "in mount Zion and in Jerusalem" should take our minds back to Isaiah 2:1-3. This is the age of the Kingdom of God upon the earth.

The writer to the Hebrews verifies for us that the Holy Spirit gifts are "the powers of the world (age) to come" (Hebrews 6:4-5). It would appear that there will be a further outpouring of the Holy Spirit gifts at the return of Christ, despite the fact that the Holy Spirit gifts ceased after the death of the apostles (compare 1 Corinthians 13:8-10; Acts 2:39; Acts 8:14-19).

Sometimes a dream is just a dream. Dreams are sometimes a manifestation of what your mind has been dwelling on and while asleep your sub-conscious is allowed to run wild when freed from the structure of your awake state.
